Side return and rear extension,  New Hinksey, Oxford

Our clients requirement for more living space was met with this side-return and full width rear extension.  The house is in a desirable area of Oxford close to the centre and our clients were keen to stay in the house if the living space could be improved.

The rear of the terraced house faces almost due south and is slightly elevated above a garden which drops away to the rear.  We glazed the whole rear elevation including up into the gable end of the extension to maximise sun and light and to give a great sense of connection to the garden.  A raised deck and gives level access through the bifold doors and leads on to a timber stair to the garden giving a perfect invitation to sit and linger on a sunny day.

Carefully modelled and shaped to fit under the neighbours daylight line the project maximises the potential of the house.

A small home brewery room was added just off the kitchen in the depths of the plan making good use of the space farthest from the windows.

The bedroom above is supported on steel beams which become a feature in the kitchen / dining space below.  The high, pitched kitchen / dining space ceilings have three large roof windows to bring sun and light in from above.
